ESOL Tutor Volunteer

The Catholic Charities Immigrant Support Services program works holistically to address clients’ interconnected needs by providing wrap around social services, employment supportive services and education and training programs in the communities of DC and Gaithersburg.

ESOL Tutors support students who are enrolled in the beginner-intermediate level English as a Second Language (ESOL) courses. Tutors will support students with grammar and conversation, keep records of student attendance, and collaborate on registration, testing, and student surveys/evaluations. 

ESOL Tutors will be responsible for:

• Supporting ESOL students with grammar and conversation
• Keeping records of student attendance
• Working with other ESOL staff to complete registration, testing and evaluations

Desired Skills, Experience & Characteristics:

• One year of teaching experience or experience working with adult learners
• Experience working with the immigrant community

Qualifications:

• Volunteers must be high school graduates
• Volunteers must be 18 years or older

Support:

• The volunteer will participate in Catholic Charities Volunteer Orientation
• The volunteer will receive on-site training at the Immigrant Support Services Center
• Volunteers will have on-site supervision

Time Commitment:

• Volunteers will serve for 1-hour shifts
• Volunteer are needed Monday – Thursday from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM or 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
• Volunteers can sign up for one shift or multiple shifts

Location: Catholic Charities Immigrant Support Services,  201 E. Diamond Avenue, 3rd Floor, Gaithersburg, MD

• Parking is available in front of the facility
• Also accessible via the MARC train
