Shelter Clean Up - Shelter 101
Volunteer Project Description:
On the campus of St. Elizabeth's Hospital, 801 East Men's Shelter provides men a safe place to sleep away from the streets. Open from 5 pm - 9 am, the emergency shelter offers a hot meal, bed, and access to a case manager for all residents. Also on site is a transitional program for men ready to take the next step past substance abuse and toward independent living.
Join us to learn more about the reality of homelessness in DC – see a new environment, learn about a typical day at the shelter, ask questions – and help us clean and maintain the shelter and the surrounding area. All supplies will be provided; volunteers should bring work gloves if available and wear clothing appropriate for the weather.
Please note that all volunteers under 18 years of age should be accompanied by an adult.
The 801 East Men's Shelter is located at 2700 Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE, Washington, DC 20032.
