Story Factory – Volunteer Tutor
Position Title: Volunteer Tutor
Section/Unit: Story Factory
Direct Supervision: Relevant Team Leader/Supervisor (on site)
Story Factory runs free creative writing programs for young people right across Sydney and Western Sydney. We do so in schools and community organisations, usually for a school term (around six to nine weeks). Volunteer tutors work under the expert guidance of our teaching staff, helping our young writers develop confidence, communication skills and a piece of writing they can be proud of.
Our programs usually run for one to two hours per week, between 8am-5pm Monday to Friday. We do not currently have any evening or weekend programs running.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist Teaching Staff to help young writers to develop, create and write stories and other written works.
- Assist young people to develop their confidence and communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS/ ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:
- A volunteer Working with Children Check
Training is provided for the rest!
- Commitment to participate in training, development and support meetings.
We do ask all new volunteers to attend an interview and orientation session before starting. We hold these a few times every month in locations across Sydney. Story Factory is an inclusive organisation and encourage people from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background, or people who use English as an additional language, or people with a disability to apply.
