Volunteers who help at a The Gathering site are not only helping someone one-on-one with memory loss but they are also giving a few hours of respite to the caregiver of the person with memory loss. For an overview and to register, please visit our website here.
We also offer respite Q&A sessions in the community to answer your questions and allow you to observe The Gathering in action. Contact us for dates and locations.
Location
There are two Gathering sites in West St Paul:
Salem Lutheran Church
- When: Offered the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays each month
Where: Salem Lutheran Church - 11 W Bernard St, West St. Paul 55118
Augustana Lutheran Church
Stand-alone site
- When: Offered the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays each month
Where: Augustana Lutheran Church - 1400 S Robert St, West St. Paul 55118
Date/Time
Tuesdays from 9:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Duties & Responsibilities
As a one-on-one volunteer you will spend five hours of brain-stimulating activities with a Gathering participant. Activities are planned by a lead volunteer for each session. You will also be provided with training in the distinctive needs of people experiencing early to mid stage memory loss.
Minimum Qualifications
This is an excellent fit for someone who enjoys 1:1 interactions and is reliable and conscientious.
Minimum Time Commitment
Flexibility is offered and volunteers are able to schedule their availability (1-4 shifts) each month. A minimum of volunteering at least once each month is preferred.
Activity Level
Mild - May include walking short distances over relatively level terrain. Periods of standing or sitting will be required. Comfortable shoes recommended.
Required Training
Interested volunteers are welcome to complete an online volunteer application and attend a 4-hour training session here at our Como campus located between the Como Zoo and the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.
