Dakota County Historical Society

Dakota County Historical Society - Community-wide Opportunities - Mapping Prejudice Project - Dakota County

General Description

Managed by the University of Minnesota, the Mapping Prejudice Project aims to identify and map racial covenants clauses that were inserted into property deeds to keep people who were not White from buying or occupying homes. From our base in the University of Minnesota Libraries, our interdisciplinary team collaborates with community members to expose the history of structural racism.

Mapping Prejudice would like to bring together volunteers from within the Dakota County area to be the first folks to transcribe Dakota County property records. Mapping Prejudice continues to welcome Dakota County community members to join us for the weekly transcription sessions or to take extra initiative and work on property deed transcriptions on their own time.

To see the maps and data generated by our volunteers, visit the Mapping Prejudice website.
