Salvation Army Queenstown

Yard Work / Gardening - Community Garden Volunteer

Organisation Summary:

We are no ordinary army. Since 1883, The Salvation Army has fought poverty and social and spiritual distress in New Zealand.

We’ve been there to help more than 120,000 families and individuals in need each year—with budgeting advice, food and clothing assistance, life skills programmes and other comfort and support. At The Salvation Army we are committed to our mission of caring for people, transforming lives and reforming society.

Tasks:

Volunteers are sought to help with the community garden which grows produce for our food bank. This would be growing seeds, planting and helping to keep the garden tidy.

Located at Gorge Road Family Store and Community Garden, Queenstown.

Time Commitment:

A few hours a week on Thursday mornings.

Skills Required:

Ideally volunteers will have some knowledge of gardening and be able to tell a weed from a plant - however willingness and enthusiasm are more essential. Ability to use a weed eater will be welcomed.

Skills Gained:

Volunteers will develop their own gardening skills and enjoy seeing the fruits of their labour grow and be shared amongst the community. There are around 30 volunteers who help maintain the garden so it can be a nice social role with the opportunity to meet others.
