Event and Facility - General Assistance - Challenge Wanaka Volunteer - various opportunities. February 2019
The Challenge Wanaka Sports Trust is a charitable trust whose primary objective is to arrange and provide events and activities having a sporting, recreational and/or social value for the benefit of the citizens of both the Southern Lakes area and the citizens of New Zealand in general.
It applies the trust funds in and towards the benefit of the community and New Zealand in general by way of financial contribution towards the establishment and maintenance of recreational, educational and health facilities and services with particular reference to people having disabilities or other extraordinary needs.
Challenge Wanaka Half takes place on Saturday 16th February, with The Puzzling World Junior Challenge on Friday and the new Intermediate event and Secondary Schools Otago Championships on Thursday, making for a busy triathlon festival. There are plenty of roles for volunteers with over 2,600 athletes and 10,000 spectators to host.
The task of taking on a 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run is daunting in itself, but doing it without the supporters on the sidelines and the teams of ‘volunteers’ who are there directing traffic, assisting in transition, handing out food at aid stations and supporting athletes in recovery would be a much tougher task.
As well as needing support on race day, the Challenge Wanaka team also need the assistance of dedicated individuals to help in the lead up and post event. Some of these tasks include:
Making up of registration packs
Helping at registration
Infrastructure build-up and breakdown
Venue set up and breakdown
Setting up of aid stations
For full details and to sign up please see the Challenge Wanaka website here
Volunteers are required during the week leading up to and on race day itself, which this year is Saturday 16th February. There are some roles post race day also. Whatever your availability you will be welcomed to the Challenge Wanaka Volunteer Crew!
Roles are enormously varied as are the skills required. Whatever your interest and skill there will be a role to suit you!
