Queenstown Arts Society

Event and Facility - General Assistance - Cloakroom Art Gallery Volunteer Assistant

Organisation Summary:

Queenstown Arts Society was established in 1962 and aims to encourage and promote art in the Wakatipu. The society reaches out to artists and those who appreciate art. It also has a large workshop room which can be used by community groups.

The society are aiming to open the Cloakroom Gallery Tuesday – Saturdays 10-4pm and need volunteer support to be able to do this.

During our Exhibitions we need help hanging the artworks and re-packaging after the Exhibitions.  Also we need help 'manning' the Rooms when the Exhibition is on.  This involves meeting visitors and assisting them with enquiries regarding the artworks on show.  Occasionally being responsible for a sale.

Being available to do mail outs of our newsletter and leaflet drops around town would be very useful.

Being available to help with art workshops – making sure the rooms are clean before and after.

Time Commitment:

This varies depending on the role carried out. Cloakroom Gallery general open times are Tuesday – Saturdays 10-4pm.

Located in central Queenstown

Skills Required:

Volunteers should clearly have an interest in art but it is not necessary to have a background or experience in art. Volunteers should be happy taking direction from others and able to use their initiative. An easy going personality is preferable. Volunteers should also be able to help with manual handling and financial skills are very useful in certain roles. Sales skills are also useful.

Skills Gained:

Volunteers will develop art appreciation, learn how to hang paintings professionally and enjoy meeting lots of artists and people from a range of backgrounds. Some sales skills will also be learnt.
