Environmental Improvement - Communications and Marketing Volunteer

Organisation Summary:

Upper Clutha Lakes Trust Board was formed from the merger of Upper Clutha Water Group and Lake Wanaka Trust. We successfully applied to the Freshwater Improvement Fund in 2017 and are working on three project streams within the Upper Clutha region (Water Plan, Riparian Planting and Applied Science). Our project partners/funders are Te Kakano Aotearoa Trust, Catchments Otago, Sargood Bequest, Million Metres, QLDC and ORC.

We’re working with Million Metres (www.millionmetres.org.nz) to run a crowdfunding campaign to raise over $50,000 for each of the next four years. Funds raised will go towards planting native bush along streams in the Upper Clutha Catchment.

Tasks:

We are looking for a passionate volunteer that’s keen to get stuck in and promote local fundraising efforts to support the health of Upper Clutha Waterways and Lakes.

If you care about the health of our waterways, and have up to two hours each week to give to this awesome cause over the next couple of months we’d love to hear from you.

Help grow the network:

  • Identify potential supporters and help spread the word (i.e. local organisations, businesses, associations, clubs and schools, etc.)

  • Contact potential supporters (by email, telephone, in person) to tell them about the project and ask for their support.

Create and share updates on social media, for example:

  • Work with us to create social media updates. This could include updates on projects or fundraisers, thank you’s to donors, quotes from participants, new photos of the waterways, plants or species, etc.

  • Filming, editing and posting short video clips that provide updates or interesting facts about the project

  • Identify potential supporters on Facebook and ask them to share posts about the fundraiser

Support with promotional events and stunts:

  • Attend community or local events and provide information about the project or fundraiser (i.e. local markets, business association events, etc.

  • Help come up with fundraising ideas, promotional events or stunts to draw attention

Located in Wanaka.

Time Commitment:

Approximately 2 hours a week.

Skills Required:

We are looking for a reliable and enthusiast volunteer with a can go attitude. Below is our wish list of skills but don't worry if you don't have all of them - we'd still love to speak to you!

  • Organised go-getter

  • People person and excellent networker

  • Social media capable

  • Marketing skills

  • Clear and concise communication skills

  • Great on the phone, on email and social media

  • Experience with crowdfunding, campaigning, advocacy or fundraising

Skills Gained:

You will be supported by the project manager and we expect volunteers will gain satisfaction from their involvement in this project through sharing and developing their skills, making new connections, hitting key milestones and seeing the project progress and develop.
