Tasks:

What does a LUMAteer do?

LUMAteers are needed to help LUMA run as smoothly as possible. You will be key ambassadors of LUMA Southern Light Project. Most night time roles will be 2.5 -3 hours duration and we would encourage you to be involved for more than one evening of the event.

We also have ‘behind the scenes’ or ‘part of the scene’ roles that we need assistance with.
Roles range from meet and greet, handing our programmes, minding installations, traffic and pedestrian control, providing general information, gathering koha ,to 'behind the scenes' roles which involve helping artists, technicians, running messages and small missions. Anything to help with the set up and take down of the event.

Located in Queenstown gardens and marine parade

Time Commitment:

Volunteers will be asked to volunteer for shifts of between 2-4 hours. Security will be on site from 10pm each night and there will always be a member of the organising team on site to assist.

Volunteering is date specific and we encourage volunteers to work more than one shift to feel comfortable with the event and their understanding, all giving the ability to deliver better as a volunteer

Skills Required:

All training will be given to LUMAteers including all relevant health and safety elements. Ability to work unsupervised, a happy and outgoing disposition is essential. You will be the ambassadors for LUMA, part of the public face of the event so the ability to engage with public is essential. You may be working at night so ability to work in colder conditions is also essential.

All LUMAteers will receive an induction to their role.

There will be communication devices used to keep all volunteers in touch with key personnel, a volunteer manager and a base for all volunteers. Volunteers need to be dressed for nighttime winter conditions including appropriate footwear. Hats will be provided.

Skills Gained:

LUMAteers will be key members of the LUMA team and get to work alongside the artists and creatives that have developed LUMA.

Volunteering on LUMA will provide you with experience and skills relevant to many industries. As part of the working unit you will be able to provide direct feedback after the event as to how we can make 2019 an even better event. LUMA is all about providing a free event to our community, centered on arts and culture, one that provides amazement and wonder to attendees, the satisfaction that this brings to all is significant .

All Lumateers receive a generous goodie bag and 2018 sees the introduction of the Lumateer Wrap Party!
