Active Positions - Better at Home Navigation Services & Peer Support Volunteer

The Better at Home (BH) program helps seniors live in their own homes by providing simple non-medical support services. These services are delivered by local non-profit organizations.

The Better at Home Seniors Navigation Services & Peer Support volunteers help seniors by providing navigation services, primarily in filling out federal, provincial, and municipal forms. This includes, but is not limited to, applications for Old Age Security (OAS), Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), Canada Pension Plan (CPP), BC Housing, BC Bus Pass, dental plans, and other related services. 

Duties:

  • Respond to phone, and in-person booking inquiries
  • Provide all necessary information to clients on what they need to book their appointment and what they will need on the day
  • Provide updates to the Program Officer on booking status
  • Maintain a waiting list
  • Assist with form-filling, as described above

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be willing to complete a free Criminal Record Check
  • Advanced English proficiency, fluency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is highly preferred
  • Must have some availability during Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office

Schedule and Location:

  • 1-2 shifts per week between Monday to Friday, shift times are 9:30am-12:00pm and/or 1:30pm-4:30pm (full day shifts are allowed)
  • Location will primarily be SUCCESS Head Office at 38 West Pender Street Vancouver BC, but some travel with the Program Officer to seniors' homes, community centers, or libraries may be scheduled in advance

Training and Orientation:

  • In-role training provided by the Program Officer
  • Ongoing support and training as needed
