S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s Immigrant Settlement and Integration Program’s Career Mentoring for SUCCESS Program provides newcomer skilled professionals with the opportunity to successfully navigate the Canadian labor market, industry-specific information and meet Canadian professionals who currently work in their chosen field.

 

We are currently recruiting volunteers to join our Career Mentoring Program for SUCCESS team as a Mentor. To apply for this position you need to have minimum 2 years of Professional experience in Canada and in total minimum 3 years of Canadian work experience.

As a Career Mentor, you will spend up to 12 hours over three months mentoring a new immigrant as they prepare career success in Canada. Your knowledge of the local market and of Canadian workplace culture is invaluable to immigrant professions. With your help, immigrant professionals can better navigate the local labor market, job opportunities, and be prepared to present themselves to likely employers.

To be successful as a Career Mentor, you should:

- Be currently living and working in the Lower Mainland
- Be working in one of the professional fields currently identified
- Have knowledge of a specific occupation, how to assist in developing a realistic career          pathway, and sector-specific credential recognition and accreditation.

The volunteer time commitment is flexible and can accommodate your schedule. All Mentors receive orientation and ongoing support from program staff.

Career Mentor Duties:

1. Provide guidance about occupation-specific career pathways
2. Explore occupation-specific workplace norms/soft skills
3. Provide Employment and sector-specific resources
4. Share Position search and networking tips
5. Share sector-specific licensing and accreditation process knowledge
6. Foster Cross-cultural exchange

Please note that only successful candidates will be contacted and required to submit a current Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Search upon offer of the mentorship position.
