Current Volunteer Openings - Farsi or Cantonese Interpreter for Client Service Delivery (In-person and/or virtual)

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. BC Settlement and Integration Services (BCSIS) is looking for volunteer interpreters who can speak Farsi, or Cantonese to support in-person client appointments. BCSIS is a settlement service delivered by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. to support temporary residents and naturalized citizens to settle and integrate into the community. By removing language barriers, BCSIS clients can integrate better into everyday life.

Work Location (Virtual and/or In-person):

VANCOUVER SUCCESS Office 28 W Pender St Vancouver, BC V6B 1R3

RICHMOND SUCCESS Office 8171 Alexandra Rd #200, Richmond, BC V6X 1C3

COQUITLAM SUCCESS Office 1163 Pinetree Way #2058, Coquitlam, BC V3B 8A9 - Farsi

SURREY SUCCESS Office 10090 152 St #200, Surrey, BC V3R 6N7 

 

Time Commitment and Schedule:

  • Weekly (or semi-weekly, depending on volunteer availability)
  • Morning Shifts or Afternoon Shifts 
  • Shifts can be any time, Mondays-Fridays 9am-5pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpretation for SUCCESS staff during in-person appointments with Farsi or Cantonese clients
    • Settlement information resources / Form-filling services (Cantonese/Farsi)
    • Employment services: interpretating the concept of what a Canadian resume, cover letter and/or job search is (Farsi)

Qualifications Required:

  • Fluent in English (CLB level 9-12)
  • Fluent in Farsi or Cantonese
  • Experience and/or education related to teaching or adult learning an asset
  • Knowledge in local settlement resources and government benefits an asset (eg. OAS/GIS/CPP)
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check
