Current Volunteer Positions - Digital Literacy Class Support Volunteer (Korean)

The Digital Literacy Exchange Program aims to increase the digital literacy skills & confidence of newcomers to promote participation in the digital economy, and to build the capacity of immigrant service providers by training staff & volunteers as Digital Champions to support clients in acquiring or improving digital skills. Participants will acquire the digital skills needed to safely use smartphones, tablets and PCs to communicate with others, access community resources and government benefits, book medical appointments, and utilize other functions that will support their everyday life.

 

Job Summary:

 

As a Digital Literacy Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting our digital literacy classes facilitated by our Digital Facilitators. You will be teaching digital literacy skills to newcomers and seniors in Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, or Farsi. The education will cover computer skills, tablets and smartphones, online safety and social networking.

 

 

Location:

 

In person and online.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist Digital Facilitators in teaching digital literacy classes to newcomers and seniors
  • Provide instruction in computer skills, tablets and smartphones, online safety and social networking
  • Provides one-to-one support to digital literacy workshop/webinar clients
  • Provide support in Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, or Farsi
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages client participation and fosters a love of learning
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required

 

Time commitment and schedule:

Flexible Schedule. To be discussed with the Digital Facilitators and/or Program Manager.

 

 

 Qualifications Required:

 

  • Intermediate level of English (CLB 4/5)
  • High Proficiency in Cantonese, Mandarin, Farsi (Persian) and Korean
  • 19 years or older
  • Must be willing to conduct a criminal record check
  • Excellent digital literacy using different computer platforms (Windows/Mac) and phone platform (iPhone/Android)
  • Excellent technical skills (operating different applications and troubleshooting technical issues)

  • General Orientation to S.U.C.C.E.S.S.
  • Digital Champions training
