Active Positions - Drive and accompany seniors on their grocery trips! (Hastings-Sunrise area)
S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Senior Services are aimed at providing services to seniors to support them at home. Food security can have an impact on their quality of life and provide a crucial role in providing companionship, reducing feelings of loneliness, and enhancing mental wellbeing. We are looking for dedicated volunteers who enjoys one-on-one connections with seniors and driving them to supermarkets to shop for groceries.
Work Location:
- Vancouver (Hastings-Sunrise area)
- At various supermarkets chains eg. Superstore,
- At various local neighbourhood grocery stores
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive seniors to supermarket and assist and accompany them during the shopping process as needed
- Build rapport with client
- Lifting of heavy grocery is done at the discretion of the volunteer
- Communication with staff – Update staff of any potential concerns about the client
- Training and reporting – Participate in any required training provided and report back on visits as required to ensure the safety of both the volunteer and the senior
Time Commitment and Schedule
- Commit to making weekly/ bi-weekly trips to the supermarket with the client – exact date and time to be set up with the assistance of the Senior Services Coordinator
- Each trip takes 1-2 hours (includes pick up/drop off, shopping time)
- 3-month minimum commitment preferred
Qualifications
General
- 19 years or older
- Criminal record check is required
- Available to attend and complete volunteer orientation and training sessions
- Able to speak English at an intermediate level
- Additional languages like Cantonese and Mandarin are an asset
Driving and Vehicle
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license
- 5+ years of driving experience
- Driver’s Abstract is required
- Access to a personal vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed) or car share (reservation will be reimbursed)
- If driving personal car, standard insurance with Enhanced Care and a minimum of $3 million in Third Party Liability coverage

This position will be supervised by the Senior Services Coordinator.
