Virtual Volunteer – Virtual Workshops and/or Building Community Connections Activities – Spanish Speaking (Surrey-Delta Service Centre)

The Immigrant Settlement & Integration Program (ISIP) assists immigrants and their families to learn about Canada's systems and services. We offer opportunities for immigrants to develop English language skills, learn about Canada's labour market, network and develop professional and social networks, and settle into their local B.C. communities. ISIP services are for eligible immigrants, refugees and their families and are free of charge. Our services are offered in many languages. 


We are recruiting volunteers to support our Workshops and/or Building Community Connections events, conducted virtually by our Surrey-Delta Service Centre Settlement team.

Key Responsibilities:


**Kindly note that there will be no handling, exchange or verification of clients’ information in this role**


  • Discuss role and duties with SP and/or staff members prior to the virtual session (may include online/phone practice session)
  • Co-host event with SP in order to support the SP and/or staff members with some or all of the following tasks:
    • Greet participants
    • Introduce yourself to participants and run basic instructions (housekeeping items) prior to the start of the workshop (English and/or second language)
    • Admit registered participants and late attendees into the session - only for sessions set with pre-registration required (no client verification)
    • Assist participants with virtual participation through basic, nonspecialized interpretation (English and/or second language)
    • Monitor chat box, take notes of questions and bring them to SP’s attention
    • Attend to participants’ technical questions
    • Liaise with SP and/or staff members to run the session smoothly
    • Upload any handouts/files (if needed and assigned by SP) to the Zoom session
    • Pair with SP and/or staff members to support Zoom break out rooms (if needed – no moderation or handling of a break out room on your own)
    • Support the SP with Evaluation Polls in the end of the virtual session (for anonymous polls only)



Time Commitment and Schedule:

  • Workshop dates and times vary. Volunteers can sign up for the workshops that meet their availability
  • Approximately 2-4 hours per session, including prior preparation with SP
  • Shifts usually occur Monday-Friday approximately between 9am and 8pm. Sometimes workshops (and/or Building Community Connections events) are offered on Saturdays as well


Qualifications Required:

  • Intermediate Level of English or above
  • Ability to speak a second language is an asset (Spanish Speaking)
  • 19 years or older
  • Must be willing to conduct a criminal record check
  • Customer service experience (preferred)
  • Good technical skills in web-based applications (e.g. Zoom) via computer and/or phone
  • Comfortable assisting online participants with technical challenges (step-by-step or brief tutoring) on using Zoom


Personal Traits/ Qualities Desired:

  • Outgoing, friendly and welcoming
  • Patient and a good listener
  • Able to work in a fast-paced and multilingual environment
  • Team player and able to support the SP/Staff members with the assigned task
  • Comfortable and experienced in working with technology – preferably with Zoom


Orientation and Training Provided:

  • General orientation to S.U.C.C.E.S.S.
  • Specific orientation to the volunteer position

  • This position will be supervised by a S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Settlement Practitioner
