Church Ministry Positions - Church Van Driver
A church driver's primary responsibility is safely transporting church members, visitors, or ministry partners to and from church events, activities, or locations. This may include regular routes, scheduled pickups, and adjusting routes for cancellations or changes. They also ensure the vehicle is safe to operate and may perform basic maintenance like filling up the gas or cleaning out the vehicle as needed.
Key Responsibilities of a Church Driver:
- Safe Driving:
- Operating the vehicle safely and adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Route Following:
- Adhering to established routes and schedules, and being able to adjust routes as needed.
- Passenger Assistance:
- Helping passengers, including those with disabilities, board and exit the vehicle.
Vehicle Maintenance:
- Helping passengers, including those with disabilities, board and exit the vehicle.
- Performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and reporting any maintenance needs to the Pastor.
- Communication:
- Communicating effectively with passengers and supervisors, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Documentation:
- Keeping accurate records of routes, mileage, and any incidents.
- Safety:
- Ensuring the safety of passengers and the vehicle, and always have a second adult that is not a family member drive with for safety. Make sure to follow The Salvation Army Policies.
- Other Duties:
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned by the church.
Additional Skills and Qualities:
- Reliability: Being dependable and punctual.
- Good Driving Record: Having a clean driving record. A MVR will be filled out to drive the big van.
- Basic Vehicle Knowledge: Understanding basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Customer Service Skills: Being able to interact with passengers in a friendly and professional manner. Also making sure to communicate with the Pastor regularly in a positive manner.
- Spiritual Qualities: Commitment to faith and a positive encouraging attitude.
Qualifications Required
- Background Check
- Age Category Must be at least 18 or older
- How much can you lift comfortably? Must be at least 20lbs

- Safe From Harm Training Must be at least Basic: Modules 1 - 4
