Volunteer and Community Engagement - Volunteer Onboarding Assistant - Victoria

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Canadian Cancer Society is a volunteer based organization. We couldn't do the good work that we do without so many amazing volunteers! On Vancouver Island, we have approximately 1,000 volunteers. That is a lot of people to get to know and keep in contact with. 

Therefore, we are looking for a volunteer to help with this.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to general email inquiries about volunteering (sending a link to the online application for the volunteer’s local community and highlight the roles most urgently needing filling in that community)
  • Contacting new applicants to acknowledge receipt of application and set up an interview if applicable
  • Conducting new volunteer interviews if / when appropriate (optional)
  • Notifying applicants and newer volunteers about the next available Info & Training Session (this is included in the emails – but a personal phone call is usually more effective)
  • Phoning ‘in process’ volunteers to confirm if they are still interested in volunteering – and if so, notifying them of upcoming volunteer opportunities. If not still interested, making note and archiving profile.
  • Checking status of ‘Inactive’ volunteers to determine if they should still be ‘inactive’ or if they should be re-activated or archived.
  • Logging calls and making notes about volunteer’s interest in VI
  • Likely  4 hours per week during busy times (August, September, January, February) and either a shorter shift or less frequent shift during quieter times

  • Mentoring from Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Strong verbal and written communication, spelling and grammar skills
  • Comfortable speaking on the phone
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Able to work independently
  • Available for a regular shift during business hours

COMMITMENT

2-4 hours per week (flexible schedule during business hours)
1 year minimum commitment
