Office / Administrative Support - Volunteer Engagement Assistant

POSITION OVERVIEW

As part of the Volunteer Engagement Service Team, the Volunteer Engagement Assistant acts as the first point of contact for all volunteer inquiries from the Fraser Valley Region.

VEST increases the Society's current volunteer capacity and enhance volunteer experience, allowing us to better deliver programs and services and fund research contributing to the fight against cancer. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Answer email, telephone, and face-to-face volunteer inquiries and refer as necessary
  • Post volunteer position descriptions via Volunteer Impact and other online posting boards (i.e. Go Volunteer, Charity Village, volunteer services within post-secondary institutions)
  • Match volunteers to current opportunities based on their skills and interests
  • Carry out basic volunteer screening activities, including confirming qualifications/skills, sending of reference forms, checking relevant documents
  • Register volunteers for training sessions (i.e. Volunteer Orientation)
  • Update volunteer information using the Society’s Volunteer Impact database
  • Develop innovative ideas to better engage volunteers with the Canadian Cancer Society
  • Provide HR and administrative support to Volunteer Engagement Coordinators and other Functional Areas as necessary
  • Participate in volunteer engagement events
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, standards, and ethics

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in office administration, recruitment and selection
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to multi-task
  • Front line customer service experience
  • Able to work independently and with a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience engaging and working with diverse groups of people
  • Excellent command of the English language; fluency in other languages a plus

  • Canadian Cancer Society Volunteer Orientation, Volunteer Handbook, policies and procedures
  • Role-specific training and ongoing support from the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator 

COMMITMENT

  • One 3-hour or 4-hour weekday shift; shift can be scheduled between 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Mondays to Fridays
  • Flexibility to attend local events such as volunteer fairs as needed
  • Renewable 6-month term (for training purpose)
  • Primary location: Fraser Valley Regional Office at 150-10362 King George Blvd, Surrey
