Behavioral Health - Working with Youth - Classroom Assistance

Villa Maria Schools classroom volunteers: main school (Dulaney Valley), Pre-Vocational Center, and Diagnostic School at SVV.

1. Villa Maria School (main school), Dulaney Valley Rd.

Villa Maria School provides year-round educational and clinical services to children with significant emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges. Classroom volunteers serve at least 2 hours, twice per week in an elementary or middle school classroom where they will develop relationships with the children and faculty. Volunteers provide assistance to the teacher or to individual students as needed. School is in session from 8:45 - 2:30 throughout the year.

2. Environmental Science at the Maura Pre-Vocational Center, Pot Spring Rd.

Engage children with emotional and behavioral challenges in classroom and outdoor learning activities. Villa Maria School is looking for individuals to make a regular commitment to a class(es) as they explore the world around them. 

3. Villa Maria Diagnostic School at St. Vincent's Villa, Pot Spring Rd.

Students in the diagnostic classroom reside on the premises in the diagnostic unit at St. Vincent's Villa for 60 - 90 days. The size of the class varies between 6-14 children of various elementary and middle school grade levels. Volunteers assist the teacher and residential counselors, engaging the children in activities tailored to their academic and emotional goals. Class runs from 9am - noon on weekdays throughout the year.

Note: Schedule is approximate: volunteers may come for half-days, and each day's class schedule varies by semester.

 

Qualifications Required

  • Policy forms Must be at least Completed
  • Sterling Volunteers Criminal Background Check Must be at least Clear
  • Tuberculosis risk screening Must be at least Questionnaire cleared by Director of Nursing
