Reserve Police Officer - Reserve Police Officer

Reserve Police Officers participate in a Basic Law Enforcement Training Program approved by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.), in a non-sworn capacity. Upon completion of the training program and being sworn in, will be assigned as a Volunteer Reserve Police Officer and will be expected to work approximately 16 hours a month. The assignment is contingent upon successful completion of the P.O.S.T. certified basic academy and the review of the Police Chief. During field training, will report directly to the Department. Reserve Police Officer volunteers are subject to the rules and regulations of the Sierra Madre Police Department and the police academy attended, and may be dismissed at any time without cause and without the right of appeal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Successfully complete a P.O.S.T. certified basic academy; learn use and care of firearms and related equipment; think and act quickly in emergencies, and judge situations and people accurately; learn, understand and interpret laws and regulations; prepare accurate and grammatically correct written reports; understand, explain and apply policies and procedures; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; make clear and concise radio transmissions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; meet established physical requirements; meet requirements contained in the California State Government Code and perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Education and/or Experience: Applicants must have any combination of education and/or experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Example combinations include graduation from high school or equivalent, with some college units desirable.
