Programmatic - Storytime Assistant
Volunteers Duties:
- Help the Storytime librarian set up the Storytime area. May include lifting and placing soft play mats or rugs, moving light furniture, and moving toys to the Storytime area after the Storytime.
- Greet families as they arrive at the Storytime area. May include answering directional questions for restrooms, etc.
- Count the participants (adults and children) at each program.
- Help monitor the space to ensure patron safety.
- Help pass out and collect rhythm instruments.
- Help pass out flyers or other papers.
- Be an enthusiastic participant, providing a role model for young children by joining in with fingerplays and singing songs.
- Help with tidying up the Storytime space, including wiping down surfaces with cleaning cloths, and moving light furniture.
Volunteer Qualifications:
- Enjoy working with children and families.
- Good to excellent communication skills, particularly with children and caregivers
- Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus, but not required.
- An interest in literacy development is a plus.
- This volunteer position is for adults and teens ages 15 and older.
- Complete a fingerprint background check, at no cost to you. Only required if you are 18 years or older. The background check is performed free, by the City of San Jose.
Tuesday Schedule:
Weekly, Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Music and Movement program occurs 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Benefits:
Volunteers will have the opportunity to interact with preschoolers, including infants, toddlers, children, and their caregivers.

- Age Must be at least 18+
- Oral and written communication skills in English Must be at least Medium
