Programmatic - U.S. Citizenship Mock Interview Facilitator
Position Overview:
Help people to become US citizens! Citizenship classes are offered once a week and we want to provide tools and knowledge needed to pass the citizenship exam with Citizenship Mock Interviews.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate one-hour mock interviews at the library
- Encourage students in their efforts and be a positive role model
- Review students citizenship mock interview and provide appropriate feedback
- Be punctual and professional in class
- Keep attendance records
- Attend training by library staff and maintain ongoing communication with Citizenship Class Coordinator.

Training/Support Available:
- Orientation and training from library staff
- Access to library resources and citizenship materials
- Continued staff guidance and support throughout the entire series of classes.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Age 18 or older
- Ability to speak, write and read English with proficiency
- Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese preferred
- U.S. Citizen, through birth or naturalization
- Strong ambition to serve the community
- Knowledge of citizenship resources preferred
- Prior tutoring or teaching experience preferred
- Good person-to-person skills: dependable, prompt, patient and flexible, respectful, able to maintain confidentiality
- A willingness to be open to other cultures and ways of thinking;
- Basic computer skills
- Fingerprint clearance required (SJPL will covers the cost)
Commitment:
- Meet regularly with staff to assess the program (at least once a week)
- Commitment of one-hour weekly citizenship mock interview for a period of 6 months, unless otherwise negotiated in advance.
Days available to volunteer: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday
