Programmatic - Sewing Workshop Assistant

Are you interested in fiber arts and working with children? Consider supporting sewing workshops at the Children's Room! Sewing Workshop Assistants will be taught stitching techniques needed, help set up supplies, assist children with their sewing projects, and help tidy the space after the program concludes. This opportunity is perfect for those that cannot commit to weekly/recurring programs, and instead are only available to volunteer on the occasional Sunday. 

Requirements:

  • Age 13+ (volunteer candidates 18+ must be fingerprinted as part of their intake process)
  • Generally available Sundays, 1pm-4pm
  • Patience to work with children
  • Can pick up simple craft techniques quickly with instruction
  • Reliable/able to firmly commit to a day/time to volunteer
  • Open and consistent communicator
  • Reliable transportation to volunteer in-person at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library

Preferences (A plus, but not required):

  • An interest in fiber arts/sewing 
  • Multilingual skills

Benefits:

  • Letters of Recommendation and References from supervising librarian for ongoing volunteers that demonstrate strong commitment to their role
