Programmatic - Reading Club for Children Facilitator

Do you have a passion for reading and be interested in sharing this passion with new readers? Are you interested in helping local children obtain academic success this school year? Join the Biblioteca Branch and lead our new Reading Club for Children program!

Our Reading Club Leader will lead weekly book discussions for small groups of 3-5 children with a focus on building and improving reading comprehension. Volunteers may lead on their own, or work alongside other volunteers, to coordinate groups based on reading level and interest. Reading Club Leaders will assist children in selecting appropriate books to read together, such as easy reader style books (one easy reader book can be read in a single session, with time for discussion) or children's chapter books (one chapter can be read in a single session, with time for discussion). Reading Club Leaders will also determine the format in which books are read that fits the interest of the group, such as whether children read to themselves or take turns reading aloud. Reading Club Leaders may also choose additional activities to aid in the reading comprehension skills of participating children. Activities include but are not limited to, writing simple book reports, drawing characters based on written descriptions from the book, etc.
