Programmatic - Ukulele Class Assistant

Seeking a volunteer, 15 years old or older, to serve as a Ukulele For Beginners assistant in our upcoming ukulele lessons.

The Ukulele For Beginners assistant provide support to the program instructor at the Alviso Branch Library. Tasks will include helping set up the Community Room, tuning the ukuleles before class, greeting participants, and cleaning up after class. The assistant may also be asked to help participants during the lessons.

Volunteers with the ability to play the ukulele or another stringed instrument at an intermediate level or higher would be desired, but not required.
A willingness to learn the instrument is also welcomed.

The Ukulele Class Assistant will:

  1. Assist in planning lessons
  2. Help set up and tidy the community room
  3. Tune instruments before class and address other maintenance issues as needed
  4. Organize reference sheets for participants
  5. Provide general support during lessons

Expected Commitment

Minimum: 2 hours every month between July and September 2024.

Teen volunteers who complete this service can request that the Alviso Branch Librarian that they work with serve as a reference for employment. This opportunity is designed for teens who are interested in developing leadership and teamwork skills, but it will require being proactive to accomplish your goals. Accomplishments will vary, requests for letters of recommendation will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis at the sole discretion of Alviso Branch Librarian Justin Sana.

Fingerprint clearance required for volunteers ages 18 or over.
