Programmatic - Baby Lapsit Storytime Assistant
Do you enjoy working with small children? Would you like to help create a fun and inclusive learning environment for children and their families? If so, join our team of volunteers at the Rose Garden Branch Library as a Baby Lapsit Storytime Assistant!
How You Will Make a Difference
Storytimes are a library's bread-and-butter: it is the source of not only early learning for young children ages 0-5, but also where families come to connect with others in the neighborhood and create community. You will be integral to helping create a warm, engaging, fun, and inclusive space for families of all types from all over. You will also be an ambassador of the San Jose Public Library, as storytimes are often the gateway for many families to their local public library.
Volunteers will be asked to:
- Help the storytime librarian set up the storytime space (set out cushions and toys)
- Greet families as they arrive into the storytime space
- Take tickets and maintain a headcount of all attendees
- Help monitor the space to ensure patron safety
- Provide assistance to patrons, as needed
- Be an enthusiastic participant, providing a role model for young children by joining in with fingerplays and singing songs
