Programmatic - ESL Writing Instructor

Position Overview: Help enhance the library’s services to English language learners by implementing a volunteer-led English Writing Skills Course.


  • Lead the library’s ESL Writing Skills Course
  • Increase the community’s awareness about library services, programs & resources
  • Expand the library’s role as an important community agency & become familiar with local adult education schools/resources
  • Suggest additional curriculum materials for English Writing Skills Course
  • Evaluate ESL Writing Skills program

Training/Support Available:

  • Assistance from a staff liaison to develop course and provide ongoing support
  • Training & support from staff about the library, programs & services
  • Library materials, data & technology
  • Curriculum activity ideas & suggestions


  • Knowledge & experience in the field of English language learning
  • High degree of initiative & creativity
  • Excellent oral communication & written skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Internet & e-mail
  • Ability to develop and work with a team
  • Leadership skills
  • Ability to organize projects and work
  • Good person-to-person skills
  • Bilingual skills a plus


  • 12 month commitment
  • A commitment of instructing a 2 hour weekly course at Seven Trees Library
  • A commitment of preparing a basic lesson plan for each week

Fingerprint clearance required for volunteers 18 or over.

Qualifications Required

  • Age Must be at least 18+
  • In-Person Online Volunteer Training Completed Must be Yes
  • Oral and written communication skills in English Must be at least High
  • Skilled in basic internet, email, and Microsoft Office Must be Yes
