Literacy/Education - Become an Adult Literacy Tutor - May 2020 Training
Become a Tutor
Imagine how hard life would be if you could not use an ATM, send an email or understand the directions on a medicine bottle. Become a volunteer tutor for Partners in Reading and teach reading and writing to adults with low literacy. The experience is rewarding and the adults are inspiring. Adult students are English-speaking and over 18. You can teach one-on-one or in small groups at any of the 25 branches of the San Jose Public Library.
May 2020 Training Schedule has been postponed due to the updated COVID-19 shelter-in-place order

Tutor Training consists of all 3 sessions. This typically includes one 1.5-hour evening orientation and two 6-hour Saturday training sessions. All 3 sessions must be completed before new tutors can work with learners. Tutors must be at least 18 years old and complete fingerprinting.
