Virtual Volunteering - Temporary Opportunity: Math Olympiad Club Instructor

The West Valley Branch Library is seeking 1-2 teen volunteer instructors (ages 15-17) for its weekly Virtual Math Olympiad Club for January-May 2025 with the possibility to continue starting in September for the 2025-26 school year. The teen volunteer(s) will work with a team of 1-3 current instructors, must be passionate about math, and must be able to easily solve the kinds of math problems found on the Math Olympiad test. The ideal candidate will be reliable, communicate by e-mail, able to solve the problems without using algebra, be able to simply and clearly explain how to solve them to younger children ages 8-11, and be comfortable using a digital whiteboard or an app to write and screen-share calculations. (See the sample problems below. Please review them before applying for this position, and ONLY apply if you are able to easily solve these kinds of problems.)

This virtual program meets every week on Tuesdays from 4:30 PM to 5:45 PM. Eligible volunteers must be available every week from 4:15 PM to 5:45 PM for at least 3 months (occasional cancellations are OK) from January-May 2025. This position also requires at least 30 minutes of prep time prior to each week's session. Virtual interviews will be arranged by e-mail with prospective candidates.
