Are you looking for a rewarding way to help your community? San José Public Library is looking for  enthusiastic community leaders interested in helping students have fun afterschool at the Library  building with Lego® pieces.

How You Will Make a Difference

Foster creativity in children and enhance the image of the library as a fun and welcoming place by leading the Joyce Ellington Public Library LEGO®  Fun Club

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Oversee the weekly meetings
  • Setup and Clean Up the LEGO® pieces each week


  • Encourage learning and creativity in children
  • Develop teaching and mentoring skills with children of all ages
  • Connect with your community and provide a desired service
  • Share or gain experience with program management skills
  • Provide opportunity for children to interact independently and/or cooperatively in a socially safe and free place


Willingness to volunteer for one hour weekly, afterschool, for a 6-month duration. 

Prospective volunteers should:

  • Be comfortable engaging with youth and families
  • Possess the ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Be dependable, punctual, and responsible
  • Complete a fingerprint background check, at no cost to you. Only required if you are 18 years or older

Qualifications Required

  • Age Must be at least 15+
