Programmatic - Teen Library Volunteer

Potential teen volunteers (ages 13-17) can use this application as a general application for teen volunteer opportunities in Youth Services at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library. This application is NOT for Teens Reach or Teen Book Reviewer- these applications have a separate form. Once your application is received, a librarian will reach out to you to discuss current vacancies, if any.

Teen Library Volunteer activities can include, but are not limited to:

Toy cleaning/sanitizing

     - Cleaning our Wee Play and Storytime toys with vinegar/water solution

Program preparation

    - Preparing supplies/templates for craft programs

Display decoration

    - Creating paper crafts to decorate ongoing book displays

Program support

    - Directly assisting special and limited run programs with guidance from and under library staff supervision

    - Crowd control for performers

Library program co-lead

     - For our academic support programs such as Reading Buddies or Homework Club where teens work 1:1 or in small groups with children after completing library training

Community program lead

     - Teens lead a library program of their creation with guidance from library staff. Teens must already be in contact with a librarian, have an approved proposal/curriculum, and an adult willing to volunteer as program aide/room attendant in order to be a Community program lead

To be considered for teen volunteer opportunities potential volunteers must:

- be at least 13 years old, and less than 18 years old

- be willing to commit a minimum of 10 hrs of service within 6 months of onboarding

- willingness and ability to work with a variety of people from all walks of life

- bilingual ability a plus but not required
