Programmatic - Social Workers in the Library

Assist with scheduling, publicity (flier distribution), set-up, reception, customer evaluation and clean-up for Social Workers in the Library. Currently this program is held on the 1st and 3rd  Monday of the month. Fingerprint clearance required. Hours 5 - 8:30 p.m.

Are you outgoing, sensitive, compassionate and detail oriented? Volunteers are needed for King Library to assist in setting up the areas in which social workers meet with their library customers. Customers and social workers need to be warmly greeted and comfortably settled. Volunteers offer support to customers, helping them to complete an initial waiver and following their consultation, a satisfaction survey. At the conclusion of our program, volunteers pack up all resource and display items, and ensure that they are easily accessible for the following session.

Customers are scheduled for twenty minute appointments with volunteer social workers, to discuss a variety of issues deeply effecting their well being, or that of a family member or friend. People come in search of possible solutions or guidance for the situations they are facing, and are welcomed with sensitivity, an open mind and resources they can use.

Social Workers in the Library (SWITL) is a program initiated at the King Library, in partnership with San José State University's School of Social Work, the National Association of Social Workers - California Chapter , and the SJSU School of Library and Information Services. Social workers volunteer their time to meet with the public at the King Library (1st and 3rd Mondays of each month, 6-8 p.m.)  offering information/referral, and advice, based on their knowledge and years of experience, absolutely FREE of charge.
