Programmatic - Summer Learning Ambassador

Library volunteers play a pivotal role in encouraging San José youth and families to take part in the Summer Learning program to avoid falling behind when they return to school. Your main goal is to connect with library users and explain the benefits of continued education during the summer.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Help launch the Summer Learning program
  • Engage and explain to families how the Summer Learning program works
  • Register youth and families for the program
  • Help promote library activities and events
  • Award prizes to readers

Commitment/Schedule

Willingness to volunteer at least two hours per week for the duration of the Summer Learning Program (June 1 to July 31). 

We are looking for volunteers to cover some of the following hours:

  • Wednesdays, 11 AM to 2 PM
  • Saturdays 10 AM to 6 PM
  • Sundays 12 PM to 5 PM
  • Mondays to Fridays, 2PM to 6 PM

Prospective volunteers should:

  • Be comfortable in engaging library users about Summer Learning program information and registration procedures
  • Be dependable, punctual, and responsible
  • Complete a fingerprint background check, at no cost to you.
    • Only required if you are 18 years or older
  • Sign-Up for an in-person training session on either:
    • Wednesday, May 29 at 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM
    • Thursday, May 30 at 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM
