Library - West Valley Branch

Prepare short book recommendations to be displayed with books in the library! This is an in-person volunteer opportunity for teens ages 13-17 at the West Valley Branch Library. 

Your Impact:

• Increase the visibility and potential circulation of YA (young adult) books at the library 
• Recommend books to others anonymously
• Potentially display YA books based on genre, themes, read-alikes, season/holiday, etc.

How It Works:

Find a book that you have read that is at West Valley Branch either through our catalog and/or on the shelves. Check the shelves to see if it has been recommended yet. If it has, try searching for another title.

Book Summary “Story Snap” Guidelines:

1. Title: Clearly state the title of the book. It must be a "YA" book with a light blue spine label (fiction, nonfiction, manga, or graphic novel)

2. Content: Write a brief, informative summary that captures the main ideas or themes of the book without revealing any spoilers. Share some of your favorite parts of the book or any elements that surprised or resonated with you.  Feel free to decorate the template if you wish.

3. Audience Appropriateness: Make sure the content of your summary and reflection and any design/decorating is appropriate for a general audience. 

4. Format & Size: Your "Story Snap" should be legible and fit in the template for display.

• Work independently or with other teens if signed up for the same shift(s)
• Earn one hour for every "Story Snaps" shift you attend at the library
