Drop-in Lunch Support at Sandy Merriman House (9am to 11am OR 11am to 2pm, one day a week) (809 Burdett Avenue)

Sandy Merriman House is Victoria's only women's emergency/homeless shelter, built by women for women. With 25 shelter beds and a drop-in program that serves free lunch to women in need every day, we need amazing volunteers (like you!) to help with food prep in the kitchen from 9am to 11am and help serving lunch from 11am to 2pm.

If you enjoy working with food and helping “behind-the-scenes” in preparing a nutritious meal for our shelter residents and drop-in program participants, or working directly to provide essential services to women experiencing homelessness, we’d love to have your help. Most volunteers work one day a week on an ongoing basis, but some flexibility in shift times is available.

Volunteers are required to have Foodsafe certification for this role.

Volunteers who work directly with Cool Aid clients are required to complete a criminal record check prior to starting their volunteer role. This process is free for volunteer applicants and relatively easy using the Ministry of Justice’s online system. Prospective volunteers are normally provided with more information on this system (including a link and access code) after meeting with the volunteer administrator.

Please apply directly by contacting Erin Gallagher, volunteer administrator for Cool Aid's shelters, at egallagher@coolaid.org or phoning 250.383.1951x4. Thank you!
