Volunteer Opportunities - Healing Professional at Sandy Merriman House shelter (809 Burdett Avenue)

Please apply directly by contacting Erin Gallagher, volunteer administrator for Cool Aid's shelters, at or phoning 250.383.1951x4. Thank you!

Role: Healing Professional at the Sandy Merriman House Shelter (809 Burdett Avenue).

Sandy Merriman House is Victoria's only women's emergency/homeless shelter, built by women for women. With 25 shelter beds and a daily drop-in program, this shelter reaches out to some of Victoria's most vulnerable and marginalized community members.

Are you a Registered Massage Therapist, Acupuncturist, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, Naturopath, or practitioner of another healing profession?

Would you be willing to donate 2-3 hours, once a month, to ensuring that some of Victoria’s most marginalized and vulnerable community members are able to access the supports they need?

With your help, we’d like to create a healing space within our shelter where women can access health supports which may otherwise be out of their reach. Because of the vulnerability of the clients we serve, we are looking for a volunteer with experience and/or formal training in their designated healing profession. You are a compassionate, non-judgmental and accepting person willing to work with women experiencing homelessness.

Volunteers who work directly with Cool Aid clients are required to complete a criminal record check prior to starting their volunteer role. This process is free for volunteer applicants and relatively easy using the Ministry of Justice’s online system. Prospective volunteers are normally provided with more information on this system (including a link and access code) after meeting with the volunteer administrator.

Please apply directly by contacting Erin Gallagher, volunteer administrator for Cool Aid's shelters, at or phoning 250.383.1951x4. Thank you!
