Location / Venue:

Rock Bay Landing Emergency Shelter

535 Ellice Street

Victoria, BC

Do you enjoy gardening and landscaping? Want to work alongside men and women experiencing homelessness in creating a beautiful space? Feel like spending some time weeding and working alongside an incredible team of shelter residents?

We are looking for volunteers to work leading clients in gardening activities.

Each of Cool Aid’s shelters has an active garden which our shelter residents help tend; our hope is to create a beautiful, healing space. While many of our residents have incredible skills, they often look to staff and volunteers for leadership and guidance with gardening (getting started, identifying weeds, choosing the right tools, etc.) The ideal volunteer for this role would be willing to lead by example by providing garden support at predetermined days/times, have some leadership skills, actively encourage client participation and support clients in group gardening activities.

Please apply directly to the Victoria Cool Aid Society by emailing Erin Gallagher, volunteer administrator for Cool Aid's shelters (egallagher@coolaid.org), to find out more information about this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness.

Please note that volunteers who work directly with shelter clients are required to complete a criminal record check prior to commencing their volunteer role. We'll walk you through this process, which is free for volunteers. At this time, all volunteers working within are shelters must be at least 19 years of age.
