Adult Literacy Lead Tutors - Lead Tutor: Math Expert
Are you an experienced Math educator, teacher, or tutor interested in sharing your knowledge and skills with other Math tutors?
Lead tutors provide a vital service by working with our HSE tutors to advise and offer teaching support. You will be working with volunteer tutors by assisting them with effective teaching methods to help their students (ages 17+) connect with the content material. You will be helping the volunteer tutors develop their confidence and efficacy.
Qualifications include:
- Age 21 or older.
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Math.
- Professional High School Teaching Experience in Math, OR certificate or higher in adult basic education OR three years tutor experience with proven success.
- Passion for learning and continual growth.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Culturally humble and sees teaching as path to your own self-growth.
Resources and Training Provided:
- Mandatory 3.5 hour orientation.
- Adult Literacy Volunteer Handbook.
- Support by the Literacy & Community Outreach Specialist.
- Teaching tools and webinars from www.gedtestingservice.com and other optional training opportunities.
Length of Commitment:
Varies on the need of tutors requesting additional support, estimated 0-3 hours per month. Schedule is flexible and can be negotiated with the volunteer tutor requesting support. Volunteers may meet tutors at a library branch, any public space, or virtually. Volunteers will report their student contact time, planning, and additional training/development time on a monthly basis.
