Adult Literacy - ESL Class Teacher

 

Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of multilingual adults in our community? Our English as a Second Language (ESL) Class Teacher Volunteers help lead small classes of adult learners, empowering them to gain confidence and thrive.

ESL Class Volunteers will lead/assist classes of 3-15 English learners at levels 1-4 on Wednesday mornings at the Philip & Jerry Miller Library in Castle Rock. Students will have taken a placement test prior to being enrolled.  

Qualifications include:

  • Minimum Age 21.
  • Complete Background Check.
  • Minimum commitment of 8 weeks.
  • Wednesday morning availability.
  • Exhibit DCL's Welcoming to All core value.

Training and support will be provided:

  • Adult Literacy Volunteer handbook.
  • Intercambio teacher training, with options for ongoing training.
  • Teacher Guide for curriculum.
  • Support from DCL's Literacy & Community Outreach Specialist and Volunteer Services Coordinators.

Volunteer tutors will report their student contact time, planning, and additional training/development time on a monthly basis to the Literacy Department.
