Reading Buddies - Teen Reading Buddies Application - Summer 2024

Are you interested in mentoring a younger child and being their Reading Buddy?

Teen volunteers (ages 13-18) who love to read and enjoy working with children may apply to be Big Buddies in our Reading Buddies program. Each selected Big Buddy will be trained to read and play literacy games with early readers of various ages to make reading fun, helping them get practice and gain confidence.

Each week, Big Buddies will spend an hour and a half with one or more Little Buddies, who drop in to read and engage in literacy games.

Volunteer spots are limited.  Once your application is received, it will be reviewed by a Youth & Family Services Librarian. Applying for this volunteer opportunity does not guarantee a position. You will be contacted for the next step in the process.  If selected as a Big Buddy, volunteers should be able to attend all 4 sessions.

The application deadline is May 31, 2024.

For the volunteers who are selected as big Reading Buddies, there will be a required volunteer orientation and training session on Wednesday June 12, 2024 at 1:00-2:30 pm.

Volunteers will also receive weekly support from library staff and peers.
