Animal Care - Dog Carer - Mornings

Dog carer

Are you a dog lover looking for a chance to gain practical experience and skills? Would you love to spend time with dogs but are not currently in a position to have a dog yourself? Blue Cross is looking for enthusiastic and caring people to help us look after our dogs until they find loving new homes. We are currently looking for people to volunteer on a Monday or Friday Morning (8.30-12.30).

What you will be doing:

  • Helping with routine cleaning in the kennels
  • Feeding, bathing, grooming and exercising the dogs
  • Socialising the dogs, stroking, playing with them and getting them used to being handled
  • Some basic dog training following Blue Cross procedures
  • Monitoring health, welfare and behaviour of the dogs

What we are looking for:

  • Regular commitment and reliability
  • An interest in dog welfare. Experience of owning or caring for dogs is an advantage.
  • Ability to work in a team or alone
  • An understanding of the care dogs require and willingness to carry out routine tasks such as cleaning
  • Willingness to learn and follow Blue Cross procedures
  • A reasonable level of fitness

Benefits to you:

  • You’ll be helping pets to have happy, healthy lives
  • Spend quality time with our dogs then watch them go to new homes
  • A chance to spend time with dogs without the commitment of pet ownership
  • Stay active and healthy
