Volunteer Opportunity: Life Stories Program
Are you a compassionate listener with strong communication and editing skills? We’re currently seeking dedicated volunteers to join our Life Stories Program—a meaningful initiative supporting palliative care patients to create a written legacy document.
About the Program:
The Life Stories Program offers palliative care patients the chance to create a personal biography. Trained volunteers conduct interviews that are recorded, transcribed, and lovingly edited into a life story document. These documents are a powerful source of comfort, meaning, and connection for both patients and their families.
We’re looking for volunteers with
- Empathy and compassionate listening skills
- The ability to gently and respectfully “draw people out”
- Editing & Communication Skills
- Strong editing and writing ability
- Solid grasp of grammar and story structure
- Commitment to maintaining the participant’s authentic voice
- Sensitivity to ethical and emotional aspects of personal storytelling
- Technical Skills
- Comfortable recording interviews
- Able to use AI transcription tools
- Skilled in editing and formatting documents, including adding photos
- Additional Qualities
- Willingness to complete palliative care and life stories volunteer training
- Openness to personal reflection and growth in a supportive volunteer team environment
