Are you a compassionate listener with strong communication and editing skills? We are currently seeking volunteers for our Dignity Therapy program—a meaningful initiative that helps individuals with a life limiting illness create a written legacy for their loved ones.
What is Dignity Therapy?
Dignity Therapy is a structured, life review process in which trained volunteers guide individuals through reflective conversations, helping them shape their memories, values, and messages into a lasting document. This legacy can be an important source of comfort and connection for both the participant and their family.
We're looking for volunteers who have:
- Critical People Skills
- Deep empathy and sensitivity
- The ability to gently and respectfully “draw people out”
- Comfort in the presence of illness, suffering, and end-of-life discussions
- Editing & Communication Skills
- Strong editing and writing abilities
- Solid grasp of grammar and structure
- Ability to preserve the participant’s voice while enhancing clarity and readability
- Sensitivity to ethical considerations
- Technical Skills
- Comfortable with recording interviews
- Ability to use AI transcription tools
- Proficient in editing and formatting documents in Microsoft Word, including adding photos
- Additional Qualities
- Willingness to complete initial Dignity Therapy training
- Commitment to ongoing monthly support and education sessions
- Openness to personal reflection and growth as a volunteer
