Volunteer with weeklong, half-day outdoor preschool camps this summer at Saanich Commonwealth Place. This role is ideal for those who love working with young children ages 3-5 and who can bring positivity, patience, and a joyful approach to nature discovery and play!

Responsibilities:

• Follow the direction of staff
• Help set-up and clean-up activities
• Learn the names of all participants
• Model safe, respectful, and responsible behaviour
• Use positive and encouraging language
• Be attentive and present for the participants (no phones!)
• Wear close-toed shoes and dress for the weather (including a hat)
• Bring plenty of water and a portable snack
• Report any concerns to staff
  
  

Qualifications:

• 15 years old or older
• Comfortable being outside in all conditions
• Friendly, patient, and supportive
• Able to take initiative
• Proficient with spoken English (other language skills an asset)
• Experience working with children ages 3-5 in a related setting an asset
• Willing to complete a Police Information Check
  
  

Commitment and Schedule:

Volunteers must commit for at least one full week of camp this summer (July/August). Shifts are Monday to Friday from 8:45am – 12:15pm every week. Some weeks also have an additional afternoon session from 12:15pm – 3:15pm.

Working Conditions:

Outdoors in all weather conditions. Volunteers will be in close proximity with others and will need to sit, stand, and move around during their shift. Supervised by staff.

• Have an informal conversation with the Coordinator of Volunteers
• Complete a free background check and online Child Protection training module
• Sign paperwork: Waiver, Code of Conduct, and (optional) Photo/Video Release 
• Attend an onsite orientation
