School-age Camps - Summer Camp 2025



Volunteer in fun weeklong day camps this summer at Gordon Head Recreation Centre or Gordon Head Middle School! This is ideal for those who genuinely enjoy working with children ages 5.5-12, want to gain experience in recreation programming, and can commit to at least one full week during the summer.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Follow the direction of staff
  • Help set-up/clean-up activities and program space
  • Learn names of all participants
  • Model appropriate behaviour and language
  • Be attentive and present for the participants (no phones!)
  • Talk to and play with participants
  • Observe participant behaviour and help redirect, as needed
  • Report any concerns to staff

 

 Qualifications:

  • Youth aged 15 years old or older
  • Enthusiastic, organized, and willing to learn
  • Strong communication skills
  • Love working with children
  • Able to hold appropriate personal boundaries with children
  • Proficient in the English Language

 

Commitment and Schedule:

Volunteers must commit for at least one full week this summer (July/August, Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 4:00pm). Scheduling will be arranged between the volunteer and Programmer.

Working Conditions:

Indoors and outdoors. This is a high-energy role: volunteers will standing, moving around, and playing with kids for the majority of their shift. Supervised by staff.

  • Participate in an informal interview
  • Complete a free background check and online Child Protection Training module
  • Submit paperwork: Waiver, Code of Conduct, and (optional) Photo/Video Release 
  • Attend an onsite orientation
