Quincy Family Services/Emergency Shelter - Food Pantry Assistance

POSITION TITLE:  Quincy Family Services Volunteer                                                                                 

LOCATION:  501 Broadway St, Quincy, IL

TIME COMMITMENT:  Flexible hours; minimum 3-hour shifts preferred             

 

Position Summary:  As a volunteer at The Salvation Army Family Services and Emergency Shelter, you will play a crucial role in helping to support our mission by assisting with daily operations to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all. Your efforts will help those in the community needing assistance and guidance through tough times.

 

Key Service Areas/Responsibilities: 

 

Food Pantry Assistance:

Bread Line Assistance:

 

Morning deliveries from 7am-9am

  1. Organize and distribute food items.
  2. Assist with restocking and inventory of food pantry items.
  3. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the food pantry.
  1. Assist in collection of donated Breadline items.
  2. Greet guests with compassion, understanding, and empathy.
  3. Maintain breadline inventory during distribution.

 

Emergency Shelter:

Family Services Reception – Potential Internship

Shifts vary between 9am-7pm

Minimum 3-hour commitment, daily shifts are 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm

  1. Greet guests with compassion, understanding, and empathy.
  2. Assist with preparation and distribution of meals and/or snacks.
  3. Assist with light cleaning and general upkeep of kitchen and common areas.

  2. Assist with check-in paperwork and records.
  3. Assist with incoming calls and inquiries, providing information about available services and linking to Family Services team.

 

Qualifications: 

  • No prior experience necessary; training will be provided.
  • Compassionate and empathetic nature with a strong desire to help others.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights (up to 25lbs).
  • Reliable, punctual, and detail oriented.
  • Must complete a background check.
