PROGRAM NAME: Community Van
POSITION TITLE: Volunteer Driver
AVAILIBILITY: Must be available 1 day/week between 7:30am-3:00pm
LOCATION: 2420 Montrose Avenue
REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator
Important Note: All client bookings MUST be done through the Transportation Coordinator. If a client calls a volunteer driver for a ride, it is the driver's responsibility to inform us of the ride request.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Volunteer Driver for the Community Van Service plays a crucial role in ensuring individuals and families without transportation can attend essential appointments and community activities within Abbotsford. This role requires reliable and responsible driving, adhering to safety protocols, and providing compassionate assistance to passengers. Volunteer Drivers must maintain effective communication with the Program Coordinator and ensure the program vehicle is sanitized and ready for use. This position is ideal for someone with strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to community service, and the ability to adapt to varying schedules and needs.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Transporting individuals from their homes to their chosen destinations and return
- Providing assistance you are comfortable with to individuals with varying abilities
- Driving defensively and responsibly, obeying all traffic and seat belt laws
- Reporting any incidents and emergencies immediately to Program Coordinator
- Calling in asap if unable to make a scheduled shift
- Keeping accurate records and submitting required documents/materials to Program Coordinator
- Attending all required orientations and training
- Treating all clients and colleagues with dignity and respect
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification:
- Criminal Record Check required
- Valid class 5 or enhanced driver’s license
- Valid basic first aid certificate
- Hold a safe driving record
Knowledge and Skill Set
- Able to drive without distractions
