POSITION TITLE:       Employment Specialist Assistant           

LOCATION:                 Archway Montrose – 2420 Montrose Avenue           

REPORTS TO:            Program Supervisor            

TIME SLOTS:              

Mon 9:00 am-12:00 pm, 9:00 am-4:30 pm; Tues 12:30 pm-4:30 pm; Thurs 9:00 am-4:30 pm; Fri 9:00 am-4:30 pm, 1:30 pm-4:30 pm.

A commitment to volunteer at least one shift per week for a min. of four months is required.

POSITION SUMMARY

Here is a great volunteer opportunity for a professional newcomer to Canada, or someone who has been out of employment for an extended period of time, to obtain required Canadian work-related references and apply for paid employment.

 

This volunteer position would also be suitable for a university student who pursuing social work, or a related field.

 

In this position, a volunteer will work closely with the program staff (Employment Specialists) and will assist clients who are foreign-trained professionals going through the skills upgrading, employment search, and licensing process in the province of BC. The position does not require knowledge of foreign languages.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct online job search and send job leads to clients
  • Maintain action log(s), records and notes of participant progress
  • May be asked to assist with the following duties: respond to program inquiries, revise resumes and draft cover letters, follow up with clients on Action Plans, conduct research.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful passing of an interview with the Program Supervisor
  • Strong written communication skills in English
  • Attention to detail
  • Professionalism in dealing with clients and program staff
