📃 This volunteer opportunity will help to provide calming and vibrant spaces that provide opportunities for gentle exercise, relaxation, exposure to nature & social interaction for residents & visitors.

Gardens are not merely landscaped additions to an aged care facility, they are vibrant spaces that nurture the physical, mental, social and emotional well-being of residents, leading to a higher quality of life. 

 

Leafy Legend volunteers support by our Gardening and Maintenance Team by participate in a variety of gardening activities from planning and planting to nurturing and harvesting. 

 

📍Location: BlueCare | Labrador Gardens Residential Aged Care Facility, 83 Muir Street, Labrador Qld 4215 

 

👉🏼 About Us: Labrador Gardens is a modern 160 bed facility. It has extensive grounds that incorporate various indoor and outdoor green spaces. There are shady seated areas, wide pathways, courtyards, raised garden beds and indoor glasshouses, all which encourage Residents to interact with nature in different ways. 

 

The gardens offer residents accessibility to a wide variety of plant life that includes a mix of flowers, low maintenance greenery, vegetables, herbs, etc.     Plants with diverse textures, fragrances and colours are also incorporated to stimulate the senses and encourage exploration. 

 

There is a coffee shop on the ground floor of the main 2 storey building which offers a delicious and very affordably priced array of fresh sandwiches, hot food and snacks.    The maintenance/gardening team have a brand-new work shed, just outside the main building. 

Parking is available onsite and there is also ample parking in the surrounding streets. 

 

✅ What you’ll be doing: 

▪️ 

 mowing, hedging, sweeping, weeding, planting and mulching grounds to keep lawns, walkways and garden beds neat and free of clutter. 

▪️ 

 discard grass clippings, leaves and other gardening debris, 

▪️ 

 where needed, training will be provided on the correct use of gardening equipment

🕑 Times: Times are negotiable within the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm 

💍 Commitment: Get started from as little as 1-2 hours fortnightly 

📅 Days: Weekdays 

 

☑️ Skills and experience important for this role include: 

       ▪️ no previous gardening experience needed but must enjoy working outdoors 

the ability to work well with your hands 

to be thorough and pay attention to detail 

to be able to work in a team, with others 

to be able to take direction and work autonomously on small tasks 

the ability to use basic gardening tools - rake, spade, leaf blow/vac, wipper snipper, shears, hedger etc
